What goes on a handyman receipt

Most handyman work is paid at the door the same day, in cash as often as not, and the receipt is the only thing either side ends up with. It matters more than it looks: a customer who handed over a list of eleven jobs has no idea afterwards which were done and what each one cost.

  • The date paid, and the property
  • Each job done, with what it cost — the estimate’s list, ticked off
  • Anything on the list not done, and why
  • Materials supplied, and whether they are inside the figure
  • How it was paid
  • Paid in full, or the balance remaining
  • Your business name and number, for the next list

The sample line items and example prices this sheet opens with are on the handyman invoice template — the same table, which is about the trade rather than about this paper, so it lives in one place rather than on all six.

What you get

A handyman receipt template filled in and ready to send: mount tv, fix door hinge and hang shelves each on their own line, with the tax and the total worked out underneath.
What a handyman receipt looks like when it is finished. Your business name, your logo and your own prices go in place of these.

A PDF, and a link your customer can open in any browser. Word and Excel versions are not available yet — if a spreadsheet is what you need, this is not yet the tool for it, and saying so is cheaper for both of us than you finding out after typing everything in.

Pick how it looks

Six looks, from a plain classic sheet through a bold top band to a shop ticket, and your initials go on automatically until you upload a logo. See all six.

How to send it

Most customers want the paper on their phone, so the receipt goes out by WhatsApp, text or email, or as a link that needs no app and no account on their side. Or download the PDF to print it or keep it for your own records.

Questions

Why itemize a receipt when they already have the estimate?

Because the two do not always match, and the receipt is the one that settles it. Jobs get added, dropped or found to be bigger, and a receipt listing exactly what was done and for how much is what stops a customer reconstructing the day from memory a month later.

Should I note the jobs I did not do?

Yes, with a word about why. “Fence post — needs concreting, priced separately” on a receipt is both honest and the easiest way to get booked again. A job quietly dropped looks like a job forgotten.
