What goes on an electrical receipt

Small electrical jobs are paid on the day: a fault traced, a socket added, a light fitted. The receipt is brief, but it does one thing nothing else does — it ties your certification to a payment and a date, so that in five years somebody can tell who did the work and when.

  • The date paid, and the property
  • What was done, and on which circuit
  • Any certificate issued, by number
  • Parts fitted by make, particularly anything protective
  • Labor and the call-out
  • How it was paid, and whether it was paid in full
  • Your license or registration number, which on this trade is the whole point

The sample line items and example prices this sheet opens with are on the electrical invoice template — the same table, which is about the trade rather than about this paper, so it lives in one place rather than on all six.

What you get

An electrical receipt template filled in and ready to send: 200a panel, labor (hours) and permit each on their own line, with the tax and the total worked out underneath.
What an electrical receipt looks like when it is finished. Your business name, your logo and your own prices go in place of these.

A PDF, and a link your customer can open in any browser. Word and Excel versions are not available yet — if a spreadsheet is what you need, this is not yet the tool for it, and saying so is cheaper for both of us than you finding out after typing everything in.

Pick how it looks

Six looks, from a plain classic sheet through a bold top band to a shop ticket, and your initials go on automatically until you upload a logo. See all six.

How to send it

Most customers want the paper on their phone, so the receipt goes out by WhatsApp, text or email, or as a link that needs no app and no account on their side. Or download the PDF to print it or keep it for your own records.

Questions

Does my registration number need to be on the receipt?

It should be on everything you hand over. It is the fastest way for a customer, a landlord or a surveyor to confirm the work was done by somebody qualified, and the receipt is the document most likely to still exist when that question gets asked.

Do I give a receipt and a certificate?

They do different jobs and the customer needs both. The certificate says the installation is safe and compliant; the receipt says this person paid for it on this date. Somebody selling the house in three years will be asked for one and will go looking for the other.
