Free receipt templates for every trade
A receipt proves money has already changed hands. The customer needs it for their own books, and you need it so the same job never gets billed twice.
Pick your trade
Each has a page of its own — what goes on a receipt in that trade, what that trade bills for, and the questions it actually gets asked. The sheet opens with that trade’s usual jobs and prices already filled in.

What goes on a receipt
- The date the money was actually paid
- What it was paid for, and what the job was
- How it was paid — cash, card, bank transfer or check
- The amount, and anything still outstanding if it was a part payment
- Your business name and phone number
- The words “paid in full”, so there is no doubt what the paper means
How to send it
Most customers want the paper on their phone, so the receipt goes out by WhatsApp, text or email, or as a link they can open without installing anything. You can download the PDF instead if you would rather print it or keep it for your own records.
Pick how it looks
Six looks, from a plain classic sheet to a bold top band or a shop ticket, and your initials or logo are placed automatically. See all six looks.
Questions about receipts
Does a receipt have to be printed?
No. A PDF or a link is a receipt, and most customers would rather have it on their phone than on a piece of paper that lives in a van until it is illegible. Print it if they ask.
The customer only paid part of it. What do I give them?
A receipt for what they actually paid, with the balance still outstanding shown underneath. A receipt that says "paid in full" when it was not is the one document you really do not want in circulation.
How long should I keep copies?
Longer than you think — small businesses are generally expected to keep records for several years, and the exact period is set by the IRS and by your state rather than by custom. Check what applies to you before you throw anything away.
Can I give a receipt for a cash job?
Yes, and you should. Cash is the job most likely to be disputed later and the one with no bank record behind it, so the receipt is the only thing either of you will have. It protects you more than it protects them.
Do I still need a receipt if I already sent an invoice?
They do different jobs. The invoice asks to be paid; the receipt proves the money arrived. A customer claiming the cost back, or a warranty later on, will be asked for the receipt.
